10 Brutal Movies With The Biggest Body Counts

3. The Last Samurai

Gerard Butler 300
Warner Bros.

Estimated Body Count: 558

Edward Zwick's Oscar-nominated war epic sure doesn't mess around where its body count is concerned, serving up dozens and dozens of dead bodies in its smaller, compartmentalised battle scenes.

But the granddaddy of 'em all is saved for the very end, with at least half of the movie's 558 kills racked up during its extensive final slugfest between the rebelling samurai and the Imperial Army.

Massive casualties are scored on both sides, especially when the Imperial Army pulls out a Gatling Gun for good measure, mowing down scores of charging samurai.

Needless to say it earns its R-rating and then some, and though most of the on-screen deaths are totally anonymous, over 40 of them are nevertheless carried out by Tom Cruise's Captain Nathan Algren himself.
