The Question

Though the title of the next Halloween movie implies a grand finale for the franchise, will it in fact end with Laurie Strode (Jamie Lee Curtis) killing Michael Myers once and for all?

The Likely Answer

While the Halloween franchise itself will probably never die outright, there's a good shot that this film does indeed commit to ending the Laurie Strode Universe of movies.

Whether that results in Laurie killing Michael in decisive fashion - like, uh, throwing him into a volcano? - or Laurie dying alongside Michael, or both of them inexplicably surviving, remains to be seen.

Yet everything we've heard from David Gordon Green seems to indicate he wants Halloween Ends to be a hard stop for his revitalisation of the series, and so it feels fitting that Michael would unambiguously die at the end without any hint or possibility of him returning.

If Universal has any integrity whatsoever, they'd let that ending sit for a good while - at least a decade-or-so - before the inevitable reboot happens, hopefully with an entirely new cast and crew who can offer their own spin on the IP.
