10 Campy Halloween Films To Enjoy This Season
8. Ghostbusters
Even decades later, the influence of this 1984 camp horror sci-fi can't be denied, becoming part of the ever-enduring pop culture landscape, and of the apparent obsession in 80s nostalgia that's gripped the entertainment industry.
The film and its many adaptations follow a group of scientists who use specialised technology to capture ghosts that are terrorising the city. A supernatural comedy film, it was also packed with action and intriguing world-building, mixing science and the paranormal together and dropping it in the bustling streets (and subways) of New York.
Most kids of the 80s, and even some in the 90s and early 2000s who grew up with the surprisingly solid, scarier and more serious Extreme Ghostbusters followup series, wanted to be Ghostbusters. Despite being a flawed film, this was the same effect the 2016 Ghostbusters film had on kids of the newest generation.
Whether a viewer loved the original crew, the Extreme Ghostbusters crew, or the newer 2016 crew, the idea of people fighting ghosts with special weapons they built for the task is timeless, and the camp fun that's more or less consistent throughout all incarnations enshrined it in the annals of pop culture iconography.
