10 Campy Halloween Films To Enjoy This Season

4. Cabin In The Woods

Rocky Horror
Lionsgate

A love story to Classic Horror tropes that completely turns the genre on its head, Cabin In The Woods revels in its apparent cliched campiness to set up an absolutely mindbending horror experience.

With a premise and title that seem the epitome of typical horror tropes, there's a lot of care put in by fans to not spoil the film's big twist, which, fascinatingly enough, shows up at the beginning of the film and builds from there.

With its self-reflexive, post-modern sensibilities and intelligent, reasonable college kids that at first seem to fit typical American horror tropes for "dumb teenagers on a road trip", it's the kind of film that doesn't make a viewer want to throw their snacks at the screen when someone does something unforgivably stupid.

It challenges its characters to make the right choices, and they, for the most part, do not disappoint, making them overall likeable and letting the audience root for them without issue.

It's gory, it's smart, it's fun, and it references more horror films than the Rocky Horror Picture Show, which makes it perfect, fun viewing for the Halloween season.
