10 Campy Halloween Films To Enjoy This Season
3. The Nightmare Before Christmas
A double feature of an excellent Halloween AND Christmas film, The Nightmare Before Christmas is one of Disney's most timeless works, with stop-motion animation and character design that really puts you into the world of Halloween without making you feel terrified.
Although it's largely attributed to Tim Burton, as it reflects his signature horror-tinged style and he did produce and write it, most people forget that Henry Selick, the talented and visionary stop-motion director who also directed films like Coraline and James and the Giant Peach, was the one behind the wheel.
The stop motion adds charm and that little bit of delightful wrongness, and the story itself revels in the dark as something enjoyable and even welcoming.
This isn't even mentioning the endlessly replayable music by Danny Elfman, making the film more or less the source of Halloween carols, with its opening number the theme song of every October: This Is Halloween.
A fun, desaturated yet ironically colourful, fantastical film with the iconic music, it's definitely right up there for one of the best all-ages Halloween films to watch and rewatch for the season—whether that season is Halloween or Christmas.
