10 Cancelled Movie Sequels (That Could Still Happen)

Cancellation

2011's The Adventures Of Tintin didn't exactly have an easy road to the screen, and took several years to come together under the guidance of Steven Spielberg and Peter Jackson - but the sequel is in even worse shape.

The two big-name filmmakers - who are both fans of the source material - have always wanted to make more Tintin movies, and in March 2013, Spielberg provided a positive update, saying that he hoped to get Tintin 2 out by Christmas 2015.

Unfortunately, screenwriter Anthony Horowitz wasn't so optimistic. In March 2016, he relayed some bad news for Tintin fans, stating that things had gone dark on the production of the sequel:

"Tintin [2] has vanished, I don’t know if it’s being made or not, but I would say 100 percent it is not being made with my involvement."

Why It's Not Dead

While Horowitz's comments seemed to indicate that work on Tintin 2 had halted completely, that doesn't seem to be the case.

In an early 2018 interview, Spielberg stated that "Tintin is not dead!" and later in the year, Jackson confirmed his intent to make a sequel, adding that he was about to start work on a new script.

It seems as though Horowitz was simply shut out of the production, and that Spielberg and Jackson have never really stopped in their efforts to get this thing made. Will we ever see it? Who knows. But - to quote a legend - "Tintin is not dead!"

Danny has been with WhatCulture for almost nine years, and is currently Doctor Who Editor and WhoCulture Channel Manager, overseeing all of WhatCulture's Whoniverse coverage. He has been writing and video editing for 10+ years, and first got a taste for content creation after making his own Doctor Who trailers and uploading them to YouTube (they're admittedly a bit rusty by today's standards). If you need someone to recite every Doctor Who episode in order or to tell you about the making of 1988's Remembrance of the Daleks, Danny is the person to ask.
