10 Cancelled Movie Sequels (That Could Still Happen)
8. A New Friday The 13th Instalment
Cancellation
We haven't seen a new Friday the 13th movie since 2009, which seems totally bizarre considering how famous and beloved the property is.
But originally, the plan was to follow that 2009 entry - which was a reboot - with a sequel, which Warner Bros. actually dated for August 2010. They announced that date in October 2009, but by December, things had already started to fall apart, with the studio pulling the movie from its August slot and delaying it indefinitely.
Then, in April 2010, the project was officially canned, with producer Brad Fuller stating that it was "not happening."
From here, the idea of doing a sequel was dropped, and the new Friday the 13th movie became a reboot instead. This new version picked up some momentum and was even given a release date, but it too was cancelled, with the underwhelming financial performance of 2017's Rings reportedly being to blame.
Why It's Not Dead
A year or so later, the project was resurrected by the unlikeliest of people: basketball star LeBron James.
In October 2018, we learned that James - via his SpringHill Entertainment production company - was in talks to reboot Friday the 13th, with his love of the horror genre compelling him to keep the series alive.
Things have mostly gone quiet since (and the franchise is involved in a legal struggle that is holding up future instalments), but someone as popular and influential as James could certainly get a new entry moving.
