3. The Dark Tower - Ron Howard
It was in early 2007 that the rumors began brewing about a potential film adaptation of Stephen King's self described magnum opus, with the master of all things "Star," Mr. Lens Flare, J.J. Abrams, taking the big chair, and Ron Howard producing. However, with its epic length, Tower presented numerous distribution challenges. In a bold, innovative move, Universal (who was backing Tower at the time) announced that the numerous stories of The Dark Tower series would be presented in a multi-medium format, with two seasons of TV programming helping to bridge the gap between feature films. Of course, like many ambitious, challenging projects The Dark Tower finally fell apart, robbing us viewers of another cinematic epic for our times.
