10 Casting Choices That Will Make Or Break Upcoming Movies
7. Rachel Zegler - Snow White (Snow White)
The moment that Rachel Zegler was cast as Snow White in Disney's upcoming live-action remake of the beloved 1937 animation, the usual suspects slunk out of the woodwork to protest a part-Colombian actress playing a character described as having skin "as white as snow."
And so, it's fair to say that a lot of people - and a lot of bigots - have already made up their mind about Zegler playing the part, much as many did with Halle Bailey, the Black actress who was cast as Ariel in last year's The Little Mermaid remake.
In terms of acting talent, Zegler certainly has what it takes as well as the musical chops necessary to do the part justice, though it remains to be seen whether or not the online hand-wringing over her casting will have any discernible impact on the film's overall audience reception and box office performance.
It ultimately didn't prevent The Little Mermaid from nabbing an "A" CinemaScore and grossing over $550 million worldwide, so here's hoping.
