10 Casting Choices That Will Make Or Break Upcoming Movies

8. Kevin Hart - Roland (Borderlands)

Jaafar Jackson Michael
Lionsgate

Many fans of the Borderlands video games raised their eyebrows when Kevin Hart was cast in the part of badass soldier Roland. In the games, Roland was a more restrained, often serious character and, more to the point, well-built.

Yet at just five feet, two inches tall, Hart doesn't really seem to fit the physical requirements, and furthermore, the high-pitched motormouth shtick he's built his career on feels like a poor fit for Roland.

Hart's casting absolutely makes sense from a business perspective given his popularity, but when Terry Crews is right freakin' there, it's tough not to see it all as a missed opportunity.

But to be totally fair to Hart, the first trailer suggests that the funnyman is at least reining in his signature manic energy somewhat.

The rest of the casting seems fine enough - even with Cate Blanchett being literally decades older than the video game Lilith - so the film's success with fans will most likely come down to how successfully Hart can tamp down his popular persona.
