10 Casting Decisions The Dark Tower Film Must Get Right

6. The Crimson King

Very much The Dark Tower's man behind the curtain, The Crimson King is the "big bad" in the background, the man to whom The Man In Black reports. He's basically Mid-World's version of Satan. It will be a tricky role to cast. Get it wrong and you have a villain who simply isn't scary or threatening enough to be taken seriously, which would be an impossible obstacle to overcome. A primordial being capable of shape-shifting, and the background orchestrator of much of Roland's loss, the reveal of The Crimson King will likely be gradual, much like that of Snoke in the new Star Wars trilogy. In fact... Ideal Casting: Andy Serkis Given all of the above, might The Dark Tower follow J.J. Abrams' lead and use Andy Serkis, one of those motion capture suits he presumably wears all the time now and some crafty CGI? Back up Casting: Stellan Skarsgård OK, it's hard to think of anyone other than Serkis now it's suggested, but Skarsgård would be good back-up; has a busy schedule but the veteren Swedish actor certainly has the chops to pull of a menacing villain.
