10 Changes That Would Have Improved The Amazing Spider-Man 2

2. More Action Sequences

The film's called 'The Amazing Spider-Man 2,' so it stands to reason that you've come to see Spider-Man. Yet like The Dark Knight Rises before it, the director/writers appear reluctant to stick its obvious selling point front and centre, instead focusing a huge amount on his alter-ego, Peter Parker. You can see the logic behind this €“ Garfield's excellent in the role, so it stands to reason they'd give him plenty of face-time. This goes double when he's with Gwen, what with the amazing chemistry between the pair. However, you can always have too much of a good thing, especially when it's stopping us from seeing Spidey get his action on. It's almost as if Marc Webb wanted to make another talky, quirky film in the same vein as 500 Days Of Summer, but begrudgingly had to give over to the superhero side of proceedings on occasion. That's a shame €“ when this film decides to throw out a set-piece, it's capable of delivering something excellent. But for the strange musical interlude, the power grid fight with Electro was a brilliant piece of blockbuster filming, and the claustrophobic Goblin fight in the clock-tower was also excellent. Couple this with the opening chase scene and you've got a hat-trick of great super-hero marquee scenes, but they get lost in a flood of minor, talky moments that slow the momentum. Granted, there's got to be light and shade in any film and clearly it can't all be about explosions, but throwing some more popcorn-friendly moments in the sequel will undoubtedly help remind people that this is a Spider-Man film, and not a Peter Parker one.
