10 Changes The Oscars Desperately Needs To Make
4. Cut Down On The Time Consuming Montages
These montages can be aesthetically pleasing and enjoyable, but in such a long show that’s threatened to relegate certain awards to advert breaks and broadcast in cut form at the end of the show, maybe these long winded recaps of Best Picture nominees and the random cuts of movies that play before and after advert breaks sometimes can go.
Instead of taking the time for one or two celebrities to come out the crowd, wait for the cheering to die down, and then slowly and awkwardly introduce a minute long reel of a Best Picture nominated film everyone has already seen, maybe a reel of three nominees could be played at a time just before an advert break instead. Or just do away with them altogether.
People know what’s nominated for Best Picture, or at least they will when a second montage is played before the award is handed out.
