He was dubbed the unluckiest man in Hollywood for a while €“ narrowly missing out on James Bond and Superman in Bryan Singer€™s Superman Returns movie. The Englishman has now secured the role of the Man Of Steel in DC€™s Cinematic Universe, and it is hard to argue that he doesn€™t suit the character. This isn't going to be a short gig either, with DC planning to continue to make these films into the next decade. He has the chiselled chin, the defined muscles and the aura of responsibility which has become synonymous with the iconic superhero. Man Of Steel has been criticised for its bleak tone and destructive nature, but Cavill€™s performance was nearly faultless. He gave the last son of Krypton a sense of duty and responsibility while showing that he was a troubled misfit who was still trying to find his own identity. The definitive Superman for many people will always be Christopher Reeve in the Seventies films, and while Cavill may not live up to this impeccable standard, he is certainly delivering an original take on a hero which many have admired since they were children.
