9. Thor
One of the more popular characters in The Avengers line-up, Thor works superbly as sardonic comic relief in these movies, his cocky attitude at constant conflict with his responsibilities as a God. Thor 2 should hopefully paper over many of the cracks in his character - namely a woefully underdeveloped love story with Natalie Portman's Jane Foster - and for that reason I simply can't see him going away anytime soon, especially given the likelihood that Tom Hiddleston's Loki is probably going to die a sacrificial, redemptive death in Thor 2. If Loki and Thor both disappeared out of this franchise within the space of two movies, we would see an entire chunk of mythology go with them, and given how much of the Asgardian lore there is to mine, it would be a huge mistake.
