10 Characters That Single-Handedly Ruined Recent Movies

1. Kate Ward - Army Of The Dead

And finally, if there's one film character from the last few years that single-handedly annihilated their film, it's Kate Ward (Ella Purnell) from Zack Snyder's zombie flick Army of the Dead.

There is so much wrong with Army of the Dead but to be fair to the film, it does also have a strong performance from Dave Bautista and some solid action and ideas, so the ingredients for a decent zombie flick were unquestionably there. Kate Ward, the whiny and unlikable daughter of Bautista's protagonist Scott, was the one thing that really tipped the scales and made this the complete dumpster fire it ended up being.

Of course, annoying side characters are a fairly common occurrence in horror movies, but what makes this particular case so bad is just how much this character's storyline ruins the movie. Firstly, she's part of a dreadful family drama subplot - she and her father are estranged after the death of her mother, because of course they are - which is constantly slowing the movie down and messing with its tone and secondly, she keeps on making stupid decisions and getting all of the other, far more likable characters killed.

It's no exaggeration to say that she was the character viewers wanted to die the most, but she ends up as the only survivor at the end of the movie. That is the key thing that makes Army of the Dead one of the most infuriating horror movies you'll ever watch.
