10 Characters The DCEU Wishes It Could've Introduced Differently
3. The Joker
I get shouted at for this opinion all the time, but I honestly think that history will one day look fondly on Jared Leto's Joker. No, not as some brilliant performance or underrated character study, but just that it showed enough good work in his few flashback scenes to warrant his own movie. I mean, yeah, sure, that might have been incredibly bad (I was the man who cast mad shagger Eisen-Luthor), but he probably deserved the shot at least.
However, now that that is categorically not an option, they'll likely wish that they hadn't bothered using him as a scene-setting tease. It's a huge role, with a huge actor, and that tends to necessite considerably more screentime. Speaking of which, there's also the small issue of the Joaquin Phoenix-led, Todd Phillips-helmed Joker standalone that looks like being DC's most critically acclaimed outing ever.
In short, if that sort of prospect even existed in their minds, if they thought there was any chance an actor of that caliber could present a brand new take on the character, they'd have kept it on ice until they could have made it happen. As it was they shot their shot on a few minutes of Leto's maniacal mob boss and appeased absolutely nobody in the process.
