A slightly less obvious choice, and while a lot of things line up neatly, when you start to examine it closely there’s a lot of reasons why this might not be the ideal choice it seems.
However, she may well be involved in passing the torch to his successor, so will likely play some role in the future Iron Man, whoever it may be.
Rescue literally has her own Iron Man suit, one she’s only just put on, and did a good job in battle against Thanos with. She’s got leadership experience, knows better than anyone what Tony would have done, and is well placed to carry on his legacy.
The drawbacks though are that Gwyneth Paltrow is a big name actress but not an action star, hasn’t had an opportunity to gel with many remaining superheroes, while Pepper herself just isn’t all that popular.
Marvel would be paying a lot for an actress largely inexperienced at this sort of role, with no real box office draw from either her nor her character’s name.
Rescue might be on our screens again in the future, but chances of a solo movie remain slim.
