2. Storm - X-Men, X:2, X-Men The Last Stand (2000, 2003, 2006)
The final two choices are determined to divide fans, so feel free to sound off below! For people of the 90's generation the X-Men animated series was a staple of any Saturday morning television watching. In this version Ororo Munroe was one of the figureheads of the X-Men, right hand woman to Charles Xavier and mother figure of the group. Her ability to control the weather is one we all secretly wish we could have....and she can fly! Unfortunately this version seems to fail to transfer into the X-Men film franchise. From the start Halle Berry had always said she was unhappy with her character, crediting Singer for lack of development, so much so she almost didn't reprise her role for 'The Last Stand.' New director Brett Ratner enhanced her role and (I imagine with a considerable pay rise) persuaded Berry back. In 'The Last Stand' they ditched the classic Storm look and went for a more edgy, choppy bob for Storm, resulting in what just looked like poor wig choice trying to appeal to a younger generation. In 'X-Men' Berry portrays Storm with a Kenyan accent, similar to the cartoon series, for some unknown reason she completely ignores this in the following two films, come on Halle...continuity! Despite the problems with Storm on film, Berry still managed to win a People's choice award for ' Best Female Action Hero' (must have been a slow year for female superheroes).
Storm is the epitome of girl power, making her a fan favourite. Originally written into the line-up because they didn't want an all male superhero team, she has gone through numerous revivals, even including a punk look. Storm will be heading up a new title simply called 'X-Men' including an all female cast. With Berry and Singer's not so amicable history it is unusual to see her back for DoFP; it is sad because there is such a rich vein of source material to be used for Storm, but only time will tell if the two can repair the damage done.
