10 Characters Who Survived The Movie (Only To Suddenly Die In The Sequel)

Final Destination is an interesting franchise because even if you survive the events of the movie, it soon becomes clear that this isn’t really any sort of great victory. You’re just going to die later on anyway.

At the end of the original film, two survivors remain: Alex and Clear. If you thought they were safe because they lasted until the end, though, think again. In Final Destination 2, a newspaper article reveals that Alex, the protagonist of the original film who apparently beat death the first time around, was later killed by a falling brick between movies. Clear returns in Final Destination 2, but she just ends up dying in an explosion.

In Final Destination 2, Kimberly and Officer Burke both survive the film, but then a newspaper clipping in Final Destination 3 shows that they were killed in a woodchipper. So twice in a row, characters who against all odds were able to live through the movie were later killed off screen, as revealed to viewers in the sequel via a newspaper. After that, the writers seemed to grow tired of this trope, as Final Destination 3, 4 and 5 all end with everyone dying. They didn’t even wait until the sequel anymore.
