3. The Professional Douche
One of the only characters on this list who actually deserves to bite the dust at the hands of the monster they're trying to evade, the douche - or in other words any character who is irredeemably arrogant, aggressive or just plain unlikable - is another step in creating a charismatic side for the villain of the piece. His or her death, which is usually bloody and vaguely comical as a comeuppance for the character's "charms," helps build some sort of disarming bond between killer and audience, and is an important aid in advancing the appeal of the villain. He or she is, after all the key to establishing longevity in a horror franchise (which seems to be the pinnacle of horror achievement), and we have to like them enough to hate them completely. The douche usually also represents some oppressive force in the sole survivor's life - whether he is a bully, or a sexist, or an embodiment of corporate oppression - so they're facing an uphill battle even before the killer makes his first grand entrance, and their death invariably comes as little surprise.
