4. The Non-Believer

Doubting Thomas. The Committed Skeptic. The Logical Scientist. All three characters will end up dead, because all represent the non-believing character who will inevitably be killed. They are the natural enemies of the supernatural side of the story - refusing to accept that the bumps in the night could possibly be a monster, or that there could be a killer on the loose, even despite insurmountable evidence (usually related second hand), and unfortunately, their commitment to reason is their biggest problem. You should never cast any doubt on any frantic character's assertions that they have seen the face of the devil and it's about to come round the corner and kill everyone. Don't even go and check to verify your theories - just run. In fact, it's best to just accept every supernatural suggestion anyone brings to the table, regardless of how obviously insane - because the alternative is just not worth entertaining. On the flip-side, but very much linked is the religious zealot, whose commitment to belief will also kill them for the same reason as the non-believer. They are too committed to an imagined truth, and too inflexible when it comes to suggestions of the supernatural.
