10 Christmas Horror Movies You Must See Before You Die

2. Rare Exports: A Christmas Tale

A darkly funny Finnish gem, Rare Exports: A Christmas Tale €“ in a similar vein to its Dutch contemporary Sint €“ takes the jolly old Santa Claus myth and turns him into a decidedly unsavoury character, who rather than bringing joy to children much prefers punishing them for being naughty. In deepest, darkest Lapland a group of researchers are conducting a dig at Santa€™s supposed home Korvatunturi Mountain, but little do they know their excavation is about to unearth all kinds of evil. Luckily, plucky young hero Pietari is on the case discovering the real legend of Santa Claus who just so happens to be a horned demonic creature accompanied by an army of creepy, naked elf helpers. It€™s a clever little film that poses a fun contrast between Finnish festive folklore and what Pietari calls €˜the Coca Cola Santa€™ we accept as the orthodox Father Christmas with a tongue in cheek twist ending that€™ll have you thinking of Shaun Of The Dead.
