10 Classic Christmas Films That Actually Came Out In The Summer

6. Bridget Jones's Diary

Richard Curtis has built iconic Christmas scenes into so many of his screenplays that it came as no surprise that his directorial debut was a sprawling seasonal mega-romcom both set and released at Christmas 2003. Love Actually may have secured that coveted Christmas release date, but that wasn't true of Curtis's previous festive romance script.

As its diary format would suggest, Bridget Jones is set across a whole year rather than just the holiday season, but the fact that it is bookended by iconic Christmas scenes makes it a popular choice for rewatching at this time of year.

The movie begins with our heroine first encountering Colin Firth looking awkward and grumpy in an ugly reindeer sweater and ends with a romantic snog in the snow after he buys her a new diary.

Of course, there was only one obvious time for this Christmas-filled movie to come out, then. And that, apparently, was April 2001.
