10 Classic Film Characters Who Didn't Have As Much Screen-Time As You Thought

9. Wicked Witch Of The West - The Wizard Of Oz

Another classic movie villain, the 1939 Wizard of Oz's Wicked Witch of the West is hugely influential in cinema. It's a fantastic performance from Margaret Hamilton, one which would define the character forever, and give the movie a legendary status. But again, the villain of the piece only appears for 12 whole minutes of the entire film. Rather like Star Wars, The Wizard of Oz focuses a lot more on the journey of the protagonists, and less on the rivalry between Dorothy and the Witch, something that we associate strongly with the movie. It's a character that would be parodied and portrayed hundreds of times in film and theatre a-like, and she was ranked as the fourth greatest movie villain ever by the American Film Institute. That's one hell of a legacy to leave from just over ten minutes' screen-time.
