10 Classic Film Trailers That Show Us How It's Done

4. Videodrome

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UFHey3utk0I David Cronenberg€™s films are like no one else€™s; they€™re a striking blend of vivid images, good performances and strong ideas that blend together into a mix that€™s difficult to forget. Funnily enough, that€™s exactly the same thing what Videodrome, the TV show that provides this movie with its title, does. However, while Cronenberg€™s films are meant to make people think about serious issues (in this case, addiction to TV and other forms of media), Videodrome is totally malevolent. A Cronenberg film, as mentioned before, is different than most other films, and so it€™s marketed differently than most films. This trailer consists of a bunch of colorful and strange images and snippets of dialogue that are vaguely tied together by an ominous-sounding voiceover that tells us about the effect that the Videodrome TV show has on its viewers. The dialogue and the voiceover, however, seem like something that were added on by the studio just to make the trailer somewhat traditional, because the really important parts of the trailer are the images: hands reaching out of TV screens; eyes with lasers shooting out of them; faces with skin changing color and a neon tongue poking out, and other such stuff. It€™s a bizarre and yet intoxicating mix, and it really gets one curious about what else Cronenberg has in store for the viewer.
