10 Classic Special Effects That Put Modern Hollywood To Shame
6. The Evil Dead (1981)
This is one of my favorite horror films of all time: the special effects are amazingly well-done considering the fact that writer/director Sam Raimi had an extremely low budget to work with while making it. I think that the deadites look awesome and the gore effects kick all sorts of ass (the dismemberment scenes are especially effective). Tom Sullivan-who did the makeup effects-does a great job of creating some fun blood and gore-soaked moments throughout the movie and the big climax (which involves a couple of deadites melting and basically falling apart as our hero Ash looks on) rocks in every conceivable way. The Evil Dead is a true horror masterpiece (which is superior in every way to the unnecessary remake that was released this year), thanks in part to the excellent special effects.
