10 Classic Special Effects That Put Modern Hollywood To Shame

4. Scanners

Scanners I didn€™t see this movie until I was in my teens, which is probably a good thing. I have a feeling that if I€™d seen it when I was just a little kid I would have been scarred for life thanks to the horrifying special effects that look so realistic they are unnerving to an extent. If you aren€™t familiar with it the plot revolves around certain people who have the ability to use powers such as telekinesis to do whatever they wish (which usually involves killing others violently) while a special team hunts them down. Some people may argue that the best scene when it comes to the use of special effects is when the guy€™s head explodes (which is very cool), but I always preferred the final battle between the evil Revok (played perfectly by the always great Michael Ironside) and Vale. Pulsating veins, exploding eyeballs, and a lot of bleeding take place as they attempt to destroy one another using their special powers and I love every minute of it thanks to the superior special effects that were used to bring this scene to life.
