Howard wasn't just any old satellite technician. Slusho's parent company was oil conglomerate Tagruato who, alongside getting into the soft drink business, also have some more serious interests, including the space tech-focused Bold Futura. In the viral marketing for 10 Cloverfield Lane, it was revealed Howard worked at Futura as a Telemetry Analyst (he got Employee Of The Month, Februrary 2016). This all gets directly alluded to in the movie - as Michelle crawls out of the air duct into the purifier room she passes by some letters branded with the Bold Futura and Tagruato logos, legitimising the viral marketing and linking the movie strongly with Cloverfield. The camera hangs on this paper for a couple of seconds, certainly longer than is necessary, making this something Trachtenberg really wanted fans to pick up on.
