10 Cloverfield Lane Trailer Breakdown: 15 Clues You Need To See

15. The Very Revealing Opening Shot

One of the most interesting things about the trailer is that the bunker the characters live in appears entirely devoid of digital technology - the soundtrack (Tommy James And The Shondells' aptly named I Think We're Alone Now) is played diegetically by a retro jukebox and the inhabitants never use anything approaching high-tech entertainment. This is all instantly apparent from the first shot of the jukebox, setting up the forced-period stylings in what is presumably a modern-set movie. I'm willing to bet that stems from digital tech being useless following whatever's gone on outside.
