10 Cloverfield Lane Trailer Breakdown: 15 Clues You Need To See

14. The Structural Similarties

One of the most startling differences between this movie and the original Cloverfield is that 10 Cloverfield Lane appears to have been shot conventionally, ditching any sort of found footage gimmick. However, that doesn't mean they're totally unrelated in style - a lot about the structure of the first movie's teaser is shared here, strengthening the link between the two. For starters, we have the same story beats - a basic set-up, interrupted halfway through by some sort Earth-shattering event, leading to increased panic and one final money shot (although, in this case, that big shocker is the title, rather than something as visual as the Statue of Liberty).
There's also the use of logos and title cards - the Paramount and Bad Robot logos appear in the same sudden cuts in both (originally due to video static, here intercut more seamlessly with the jukebox) and the "From Producer J.J. Abrams" tag (which should be the point you realised something big was up) comes at the same points. What all this does is reaffirm that we're leaning into to feel of Cloverfield - it's not just a worthless title.
