An adult animated movie with an impressive cast and a hilariously bleak concept about sentient food? It sounds like quite a decent time. Sadly, in the end, Sausage Party ended up being alright at best and unwatchable at worst.
Sausage Party is a crass movie which takes Pixar's concept of inanimate objects coming to life and twists it on its head, with living food getting devoured. The film is funny in places but lacks anything outside of gross-out jokes and overly sexual confectionary items. This is why many audience members got bored and departed the cinema.
Reddit user Musicnote328 even added, "3 people walked out with their kids when I saw Sausage Party". Like Deadpool, it's safe to say the child-friendly aesthetic might have lured the wrong crowd in places.
Not content with offending its own audience, Sausage Party once accidentally branched into a crowd who'd gone to see something else. In a Californian cinema, the R-Rated trailer was played during a screening of Finding Dory, having been mistaken for an animated children's flick. Naturally, this left the kids and parents aghast, proving that the film could shock even those who didn't go out of their way to see it.
