If an alien race came down to Earth and attempted to learn the planet's culture, they'd be greeted with a wide variety of beautiful and thought-provoking experiences. But, they might also discover the weirdness that is Borat and wonder, how on Earth did this become so massive?

Sacha Baron Cohen's infamous character is an easily bankable figure, with an original movie that surprised many with its strong comedy, surprisingly poignant scenes and entirely inappropriate moments. The sequel continued in this vain, being a dependable/topical follow-up. Still, the initial film was too hot to handle for many people in cinemas.

Borat is a character that always strives to push the boundaries, and that's something you could see in the film. It was gross, shocking and painfully cringeworthy, full of many things that seemed too awful for the big screen. Thanks to this, there were a fair few audience members who left the cinema. One Buzzfeed user named Adroa summed it up by saying, "we'd actually pay money to be let out".

Then, of course, there's the reaction from Kazakhstan itself, which denounced the movie and expressed its distinct displeasure with its crude depiction of their country. It's pretty hard to argue with that.
