10 Comic Book Characters Who've Never Had A Decent Movie

9. Green Lantern

On the basis of Green Lantern, you’d have to question Ryan Reynolds’ claim to be a comic book fan. Given that his career also includes Blade: Trinity, R.I.P.D. and X-Men Origins: Wolverine, it’s a wonder he didn’t end up playing someone’s uncle on Canada’s lowest-rated sitcom.

Released in the same year as Thor, Captain America: The First Avenger, and X-Men: First Class, Green Lantern squanders its own mythology in favour of noisy, overdone action sequences. The icing on the cake is the limp dialogue, which reduces everything to the level of Steel. Characters you couldn’t care less about strut around saying things like, “Once you’ve crossed that line, once you’ve given into fear, you’ll never go back!”

Lacking charm, soul and a coherent plot, the movie gives the impression of having been hashed together during shooting, although Peter Sarsgaard’s over the top performance and the costumes might see it acquire a camp reputation in the future.
