10 Comic Book Characters Who've Never Had A Decent Movie

8. Spawn

Fantastic Four x 2
New Line Cinema

Released a year before Blade set the standard for dark R-rated comic book movies, Spawn came out around the same time as Steel and Batman & Robin and even though it’s arguably the best of the three movies that’s not really saying much.

Lacking the edge of Todd McFarlane’s comic books and shorn of the nastiness of the animated series, this big screen version goes the Steel route and camps up the material, with John Leguizamo’s Clown character little more than an Oompa Loompa who makes bad puns. Imagine The Crow directed by Joel Schumacher and you’ll have an idea why this movie never quite hits the spot.

There is some good news, though: McFarlane is reportedly casting the reboot, which he intends to write and direct himself. Can’t wait.
