9. Most Of The Eternals

Chloe Zhao’s Eternals is almost certainly a ‘marmite' movie due to audiences and critics alike either loving or loathing it, and its mixed reception is undoubtedly the reason why a potential sequel is yet to be confirmed.

Earning a 47% Rotten Tomatoes score, Eternals shares the wooden spoon alongside the latest underwhelming Ant-Man sequel, Quantumania. Unfortunately for Zhao and Feige, it’s easy to distinguish why the film was a disaster compared to its fellow MCU predecessors and successors.

Eternals explores an interesting area of the MCU not seen before accompanied by a star-studded cast featuring Hollywood heavyweights and relative newbies, however, it is bloated in every sense of the word. Not only is the film simply too long to stretch out its thin story, but it’s also filled to the brim with too many characters and plot points making it overflow and cause a subsequent mess as a result.

There have been rumours that a sequel has been greenlit behind the scenes but with the MCU’s current trajectory working toward building the Young Avengers, forming the Fantastic Four and integrating the X-Men, they should be taken with a pinch of salt.

Although a potential follow-up may be placed on the back burner for now, the Eternals’ cosmic angle categorically provides a boost to its chances with Marvel favouring a future that incorporates events happening in and around Earth. So, Eternals 2 could very well be announced at some point soon… ish?
