10 Comic Book Movie Characters Who Face Uncertain On-Screen Futures

8. Professor X & Magneto (Past & Present)

There is a conversation to be had surrounding the futures of Professor X and Magneto. It’s a situation more complicated than the relationship shared between the two characters, so it’s no real surprise the signature double act makes this list.

Although Sir Patrick Stewart’s Professor X was bizarrely revealed and subsequently spoiled within one of the film’s trailers, his inclusion within Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness was a wholesome moment for MCU and X-Men fans alike.

He didn’t stick around for long mind, and his death felt like a very telling decision of where he and his former Fox cohorts fit into current plans. However, with Disney acquiring 21st Century Fox back in 2019 and the current MCU a variant extravaganza, it's virtually impossible to predict when we’ll see Charles Xavier and Erik Lehnsherr next. Well, not really, as there's a 99% chance they will show their faces for Deadpool 3.

After all, Stewart pretty much confirmed his and Sir Ian McKellen’s return to the characters in an interview with Entertainment Tonight by saying that “… we’re not done, Sir Ian and myself… we got plans.” That rather gives the game away, but what about James McAvoy and Michael Fassbender?

It would be fair to assume that the ship has probably sailed on that front. Mind you, if there’s a character who could get all four men back on screen together for one last ride, it would be Deadpool... so never say die.
