9. Tales From The Crypt: Demon Knight Was Supposed To Be The First Of A Trilogy
The Tales From The Crypt TV series was based on the 1950s EC Comics series of the same name. After the success of the horror anthology HBO series, the powers that be felt it was time to bring the Cryptkeeper to the big-screen. The first movie up was Demon Knight , a movie about a man on the run who is being hunted by a demon known as the Collector (played by a hilariously over the top Billy Zane). The movie was enough of a hit to warrant a sequel, the vampire porn film Bordello Of Blood, which was a box-office and critical failure (though I
enjoyed it very much). The third movie, however, is a lesser known venture called Ritual. It was released in 2001, but was only distributed internationally (without the Tales from the Crypt connection) until 2006 (what does that tell you?). The movie takes place in Jamaica and even has the Cryptkeeper wearing dreads and saying things like Oh, what up my people? Welcome to Jamaica, man! This is your old bosom bloody the Cryptkeeper. The movie was ridiculous and such a terrible way for the franchise to end. Talk of a
Tales From The Crypt reboot gets thrown around from time to time, but it doesnt seem likely. Also, the underrated Peter Jackson film The Frighteners was originally planned to be a Tales From the Crypt movie helmed by another director, but this changed once Robert Zemeckis read the script.
