One thing that every story has to do is abide by the rules it sets itself. This is often something that trips up time-travel stories, as there are just so many potential plot holes, but this isn’t the only narrative that can be undone by its own limitations.

Such a thing happened during Venom, concerning how another symbiote survived for so long. When the aliens first landed on Earth, Riot bonded with a first responder before then jumping into the body of an elderly woman.

It was established early that the symbiote had to constantly change from one host to the next in order to survive, yet after a six-month time jump necessary to show the downfall of Eddie Brock, Riot is shown using the same host as before. Within the rules already laid out in the movie, this should have been impossible.

According to director Ruben Fleischer, the time jump was needed for Eddie Brock’s character development, but he also admitted that it was a plot hole to have Riot still within the old woman’s body half a year later.
