10 Comic Book Movie Mistakes Confirmed By The Creators

8. Valkyrie's Gay Scene - Thor: Ragnarok

One of the areas that you could argue the Marvel Cinematic Universe has lacked over the years, though strides have been taken since the beginning of Phase Four, is representation. In spite of having a huge pool of characters to draw from, it took a long time for Marvel Studios to include any gay characters on the big screen.

This changed with Avengers: Endgame, Loki, and Eternals, but the MCU almost confirmed its first gay superhero back in 2017. There was a scene that was ultimately left on the Thor: Ragnarok cutting room floor that suggested Valkyrie was part of the LGBTQ+ community.

The scene in question showed a female leaving Valkyrie’s bedroom, though test audiences reportedly didn’t connect well with it. According to Taika Waititi, this was because the nod was too subtle, and no one was able to piece together what was being said.

Instead of confirming that Valkyrie was gay, this just confused audiences with the image of a random woman they had never seen before. Not only does Waititi regret not keeping the scene in the movie, he also regrets not making it more obvious by having the two characters share a kiss instead.
