10 Comic Book Movie Performances So Boring It Actually Hurt

9. Ioan Gruffudd - Mister Fantastic - Fantastic Four

Granted, Mister Fantastic is a fairly insipid character as far as comic book heroes go, but the fluffy nature in which Ioan Gruffudd plays him (read as: incredibly boring way) in the pretty awful Fantastic Four movies is enough to invoke sleep. Whereas Chris Evans, Michael Chiklis and - to a lesser extent - Jessica Alba manage to at least inject a bit of life into their performances, Gruffudd's Reed Richards is so bland and uninspired that it almost smarts. And speaking of smarts, an actor of gravitas could have made this genius true to his origins and also not so dull. Is it useless - and pointless - to complain about a flat performance in an underwhelming superhero movie aimed squarely at children? Perhaps not as much as you might think: if the movie was aimed at kids anyway, and the associated filmmakers weren't all that bothered about things like "making a good movie," they could have at least hinted that Gruffudd should have brought a bit of pizazz to Richards, as opposed to playing him like the missing part of an inflatable liferaft. Richard isn't a super interesting character, sure, but Gruffudd's take is an injustice.
