10 Comic Book Movie Performances So Boring It Actually Hurt

10. Black Widow - Scarlett Johansson - The Avengers

Before you take to the comments section to defend Scarlett Johansson's portrayal of Black Widow (having recently seen her in Captain America: The Winter Soldier), hear us out: the first time we glimpsed Natasha Romanoff in Iron Man 2, she was played as a mere piece of eye candy for Tony Stark to ogle over, before we found out that she was actually an undercover agent working for S.H.I.E.L.D. and... you know the rest of the story, anyway. Next time we met Black Widow was as a member of the Avengers in - yes - The Avengers, brought in by one Nick Fury. Which is to say: up until her leading role in The Winter Soldier, Johansson seemed to be playing Black Widow on a sort of autopilot. Sure, her lines were delivered competently, and she did what she needed to do... but there wasn't a sense of "character" attached to the way she was playing her superhero. Anybody could have filled in the role. But here's where we divert and say that Johansson finally came into her own as Black Widow in The Winter Soldier, and with a sense of sexy, fun and badassery, it almost felt as though they'd hired a different actress entirely.
