10 Comic Book Movie Scenes That Totally Dominated Their Films
3. Emergency Landing - Superman Returns (2006)
Bryan Singer's Superman reboot may have been a little too reverential towards the character's first two cinematic outings, but it did deliver one of the best set-pieces in the history of the franchise. Although the mixed critical and commercial reception to the movie may have nixed any further installment, this scene remains the undoubted high point of the gargantuan 150-minute running time. Wisely ignoring the terrible third and fourth entries in the franchise and instead acting as a direct follow-up to Superman II, Returns offered a nostalgic and emotionally complex superhero tale, a rarity in the age of style over substance blockbuster filmmaking. Unfortunately, the rest of the movie failed to live up to the promise of this thrilling, visually spectacular set-piece and by comparison the remainder of Bryan Singer's passion project seemed more than a little flat and underwhelming.
I don't do social media, so like or follow me in person but please maintain a safe distance or the authorities will be notified. Don't snap me though, I'll probably break. I was once labelled a misogynist on this very site in a twenty paragraph-long rant for daring to speak ill of the Twilight franchise. I stand by what I said, it's crap.
