9. The Sinister Six - The Amazing Spider-Man 2

The Set-Up

One of the biggest problems with The Amazing Spider-Man 2 was its insistence on concentrating on what would come next in Sony's planned Spider-verse to the detriment of the film itself. That included it's infuriating attempts to set up the planned Sinister Six movie and the revival of Norman Osborn.

The sequel hinted that the line-up was going to be Rhino, Vulture, Doctor Octopus, Mysterio, and Kraven the Hunter with the Green Goblin serving as the leader.

But Then...

Sadly for Sony, The Amazing Spider-Man 2 did so poorly at the box office that it ended up being a franchise killer. Not only were both Spider-Man 3 and 4 binned, but so too were the Sinister Six and female-centric spin-offs. Sony then got to the table with Marvel and the rest is history.
