4. The Villain Is Really Just A "Victim"
Appears In: Every Spider-Man movie ever. The original Spider-Man had Norman Osborn have his mind taken over by the Goblin Suit, Otto Octavius was driven crazy by the Doc Ock suit in Spider-Man 2, and in the third film, Flint Marko is only thieving to get enough cash to save his ill daughter, which in turn results in him becoming the Sandman. In The Amazing Spider-Man, Dr. Kurt Connors is simply trying to research regenerative limb technology, which causes him to eventually become The Lizard. Isn't it just a bit boring when every villain has a sob story to try and make us feel sorry for them? While the Spider-Man stories are in their nature more simplistic and keen to appeal to the black-and-white sensibilities of their younger fanbase, could we not just get one villain who is pure evil for evil's sake, which in my eyes is much scarier than constantly explaining their behaviour away.
