10 Comic Book Movies That Changed Characters For The Better
1. Tony Stark - Iron Man
Would modern comic book movies be anywhere near as big as they are today without the limitless charisma generator that is Robert Downey Jr?
Witty, instantly likeable and funny even before he gains humility, which is an impressive feat when you think that Tony is simply an irresponsible spoilt rich guy who sells weapons, RDJ provided the strong personality, as well as deep respect for the character and his motivations that helped to fuel over a decade's worth of films in what can possibly be considered the best casting in the entire MCU.
It would be fair to say that comic Tony Stark is nowhere near as beloved as movie Tony. Coming off 2008, he had gone from the avenger who's only real purpose was to pay for everything to a semi-fascist authoritarian director of S.H.I.E.L.D. that had failed to prevent a Skrull invasion that had been occurring for years, a change that was so widely derided by fans that the character had to have his brain rebooted to before any of it happened so he would be more likeable again.
In fact, this new Tony started to act more and more like the RDJ version, being one of the rare occasions that the movie adaptation informed an existing character and fundamentally improved it. That is the power of Robert Downey Jr.
