10 Comic Book Movies That Don't Deserve To Be Rotten On Rotten Tomatoes

10. Weird Science (1985)

Rotten Tomatoes Score: 56% Yes, Weird Science was based on a comic book. Hint: it's called Weird Science and you've almost definitely seen the cover a bunch of times (it's just that people rarely put two and two together). "Made of the Future," a story from the fifth issue, inspired the film's premise. Often derided as the least worthwhile film of John Hughes' golden period, this is an unashamedly goofy picture with an incredibly nutty plot - two nerds design their perfect woman using a super computer - and featuring immensely likeable performances from its two leads, played by Anthony Michael Hall and Ilan Mitchell-Smith. If you're looking for an entertaining yarn, Weird Science more than makes the cut: why it has a 56% on Rotten Tomatoes is anybody's guess. No, it's not a masterpiece, but as a slice of '80s hokum it's genuinely funny stuff (more so now thanks to how dated it looks in retrospect), whilst the teen fantasy/Frankenstein angle makes for an interesting blend. It's a film that seems to revel in its own dumbness, which is kind of refreshing. Weird Science is essentially a fantasy movie aimed at nerds, a point made apparent in its casting of model Kelly Le Brock as the "perfect woman," Lisa; she's so beautiful that her presence alone should automatically cancel out that "rotten" rating.
