10 Comic Book Movies That Failed To Live Up To The Hype

2. Man Of Steel (2013)

If you're looking to create hype for something, why not just stamp Christopher Nolan's name all over it? Doing so, perhaps, proved to be Warner Bros.' biggest mistake when they decided to market Superman reboot Man Of Steel off the back of Nolan's recent success with The Dark Knight. What fans expected as a result, then, was a long way away from what director Zack Snyder actually delivered: a messy, surprisingly boring superhero flick. Another hype-based issue stemmed from the tone offered up in trailers, which pegged Man Of Steel as a far better movie than the one that fans ultimately got - one seemingly grounded in an emotional and yet somehow exciting Nolan-esque "reality" that was plainly unapparent in the final film. It was a definitive case of a trailer hyping up a lesser film. This approach meant that fans were premeditating a Superman movie unlike one they'd ever seen before. Instead, Snyder gave them something that felt conflicted in its ambitions, with touches of the Michael Bay about it (talk about collateral damage - oh boy!). That's not to say that Man Of Steel totally missed the mark, because there were a few good moments. And yet it was odd to be faced with a Superman movie capable of putting you to sleep.
