10 Comic Book Movies That Failed To Live Up To The Hype
3. Green Lantern (2011)
Remember this? Yeah, bet you haven't thought about Green Lantern for a while, have you? It's one of those movies that - like a lot of Ryan Reynolds movies, actually - the world completely forgot about just a few months after it was first released. Which is somewhat weird, really, given that Green Lantern looked to have all the makings of a great film. Though it might seems crazy to think so now, there was tons of hype for this flick in 2011. You have to consider, firstly, that Martin Campbell - who a few years before had helmed the best James Bond film ever, Casino Royale - was behind the camera for this film, which convinced most that it would be a great movie before they'd even seen it (including Warner Bros.). Then there's the CGI, which is genuinely impressive (and even beautiful) from start to finish. The trailer wasn't that bad, either, if a little... well, vague. That vague trailer was a sign of things to come, of course; it was the studio trying to cover up the terrible movie that they'd made - one that was edited and re-cut and edited and re-cut again into incomprehension; not to mention it was riddled with plot holes. Yes, Green Lantern emerged as a galaxy-sized mess; a bonafide kick in the face. Odd to think that said abomination was intended to usher in some kind of DC Cinematic Universe, huh?
