10 Comic Book Movies That Failed To Live Up To The Hype
7. Iron Man 2 (2010)
Iron Man 2 is the definitive example of a Marvel Cinematic Universe movie trying desperately hard to be a Marvel Cinematic Universe movie. Right off the bat, there's a sense that this sequel was tasked with expanding the world that fans have since come to know and love, but at the expense its own identity. It's very much MCU: The Movie. Given the (somewhat unexpected) success of Iron Man, however, and the fact that this sequel saw Robert Downey Jr. reprising his role as Tony Stark, at the time everyone's new favourite superhero, audience anticipation was riding high, especially given that whole "Avengers Initiative" tease at the end of the first. The promise of such an exciting movie sent everyone wild. To sit down to this flick, then, was everything other than satisfying. Whilst Robert Downey Jr. is in full swing as the titular hero and a few of the action scenes are memorable enough, the pace is wandering and the movie is slow, slow, slow. Not even Sam Rockwell - pretty much always a film's MVP - could rescue this MCU advertisement disguised as a sequel.
